Navigating Airport Security

Navigating Airport Security

Nobody enjoys airport security. This is simply because nobody enjoys being patted down and prodded by strangers. It's an uncomfortable feeling. However, there is no way around it. When you look at the circumstances in a post-911 world, it's better than the alternative. Therefore, it's something we all have to deal with if we want ourselves and our families to be safe.

Since airport security can't be avoided, there are certain steps you can take to make this a better experience. The first thing you need to keep in mind is that they're going to make you empty your pockets. That being the case, you never want to have anything of great value or embarrassing kept in your pockets prior to getting on line for airport security. Of course, you will most likely have your wallet in your pocket, so that's an exception to this rule.

Another important tip is that you never want to wear loose pants when passing through airport security. If you wear loose pants, then you should be prepared for an embarrassing experience, one in which you might become an unintended attraction for other travelers. When you go through airport security, you will be required to remove your belt. There is a good chance that you will be able to hold your pants up with your hand. However, what if you reach for your cell phone without thinking? The instant you remove your hand from your pants, you will find yourself in an uncomfortable moment. It's imperative that you never wear loose pants on a day you're going through an airport. If possible, wear elastic pants. Even if you're traveling for business, you can change once you reach your hotel room in your destination city. If you're going straight to a business meeting, then you can change in the airport bathroom after the plane lands. You shouldn't feel strange about it. This is a common strategy taken by business travelers. The best part is that allows for more comfortable travel.

Another potential embarrassing moment involves sweaty or smelly feet. Usually, these two go hand in hand, but it is possible to have one without the other. In order to avoid such circumstances, be sure to thoroughly clean your feet prior to arriving at the airport. If you're not driving to the airport, then it's highly recommended that you remove your shoes from your feet so your feet will be able to breathe. This can help prevent sweat and odor. If you are driving, then it's a good idea to put the air on your feet while driving. This can help a great deal.

Another nuisance when going through airport security. is long lines. A lot of travelers think this is unavoidable, but that's usually not the case. The next time you arrive at an airport, notice that most people are using the same entrance. Therefore, they're all getting on the same line. Most travelers don't realize that there are other entrances in that corridor. Instead of heading straight to the first security checkpoint you see, walk down the corridor for about 100 yards. You will most likely find another security checkpoint with a much shorter line. Sometimes there's no line at all. This can often save you 30 minutes or more.

Hopefully, the above traveling tips will improve your future airport security experiences.
