Ways To Save On Your Next Flight

Ways To Save On Your Next Flight

Flying is more common today compared to ten years ago. That doesn't mean the cost of flying has become cheaper. Even with multiple flights from various carriers, flying can become expensive if you chose the wrong time of day to take to the sky. Here are some tips for saving money when you decide to fly.

First, consider the rate of your flight vs. the cost of your baggage. Spirit Airlines is notorious for charging people to carry-on luggage. Southwest Airlines, however, is more generous. Southwest allows each ticket two free checked bags, which can save you tons of cash. Spirit Airlines' rates may look appealing but once you factor in the baggage fees the rate isn't a deal at all.

Don't book over the phone, either. Phone bookings with airlines usually result in a booking fee. Sometimes this fee can be $50 dollars per ticket. Try to book online if possible. If you do call in, ask the agent if he or she could waive the booking fee since you had an issue with the online booking and had to call about the question. Usually asking to waive the fee will eliminate it.

You can also save money if you book your flight in advance. By in advance, at least a month or two ahead of schedule. This is when you will find the best rates possible. Some people like to book at the last minute. While you can get some great deals on the fly (pun intended), this tactic can also go the other way and then you're subject to outrageous rates.

Learn how to clear your web browser. I know it sounds weird but booking sites are able to record your web browsing data and be able to know where you are looking to travel. You will no longer be offered their best rates.

See if you are able to fly out of a different city near you. For example, I used to live between Milwaukee and Chicago. I would always fly out of Milwaukee since their flight were cheaper to the same destinations.

Finally, if you really want to pinch a penny and save cash try booking your flight at an inconvenient time. No one wants the first flight of the day. But, that is usually the cheapest flight of the day. Leaving at 4 or even 5 in the morning can save you up to 60% on a ticket when compared to departing around 10 or 11 in the morning.

The last piece of advice for saving money on airfare is to shop around. travel websites offer some fantastic deals, but you can save money by purchasing flights directly through a specific carrier. Remember, a little bit of research can save you tons of cash.
