Why People Love Smaller Airlines

Why People Love Smaller Airlines

Traveling somewhere in the world is something that most people dream of. Of course when you are shopping for your next trip one of the things you will have to decide on is the airline that will get you there. There are plenty of actual choices that will take you anywhere in the country and anywhere in the world for that matter. However most people do not realize how wide their selection is. Most will take a look at the giant airline names because that is what they are familiar with, but some more experienced travelers will go for the smaller airlines instead. So why is it that the smaller airlines have such a loyal following among travelers?

Price

If you are not someone who travels every month, then your reason may be that you simply cannot afford it. Not everyone can go on a small vacation 3 times a year and on top of that the bigger carriers are adding fees for luggage and meals. While not every smaller airline will give you a free meal when you travel, most of them will at least still offer refreshments. Some of the bigger airlines will charge you for everything including a bottle of water, or the use of pillows and blankets. Smaller airlines focus on giving you more for a far lower price. Take the baggage fee that American Airlines charges for example; there is a 25 dollar fee for the first bag when you travel within the United States. Southwest on the other hand allows you to check two bags for free.

Service

While every company aims to give you the best customer service, it is a lot easier to do so when it is a smaller airline. The reason for the better service is that a smaller company has a smaller amount of customers which allows them to focus on them. A smaller company also knows that they have to compete with the giants of the industry and therefore they will pay special close attention to the customer service that they offer to their customers. In the United States JetBlue was the top customer service airline in the world airline awards, clearly beating the giants. If you have used smaller and regional airlines then you know the service is usually top notch.

Perks

Some of the bigger companies in the travel industry are able to give you some perks when you travel with them, but how much can you really enjoy them? The perks that you get from smaller companies are things that you can sense right away. If you are traveling from Washington DC to Milwaukee for example, you could travel Midwest Air for a very low price and on seats that are usually reserved for business class. While not every one of their flights will give you the same comfort they all do give you a little more room. Traveling with JetBlue means some of the best on board entertainment. Southwest will give you some of the friendliest service you will ever get in rather comfortable seats. So why would anyone not be willing to try a smaller name when traveling?
